TORONTO, June 1, 2017 – The newly rebranded Toronto Caribbean Carnival launched today at the Ontario Science Centre with costumed Mas’ models, music and food. At the noon-hour event it was announced that the Festival has a new multi-year title sponsor –Peeks Social Ltd. a Toronto-based technology company that has created the world’s first e-commerce- enabled live-streaming platform. The festival is now called Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival.

I expect it will continue to grow and people will soon be talking about it in the same breath as they talk about carnivals in Rio and the Caribbean!”
The Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival will run from July 7 to August 6, 2017, bringing the culture of Caribbean Canadians to well over a million spectators in downtown Toronto and around the world.
Today’s launch was for media and community stakeholders. The public kick-off for the 50th annual Carnival will take place on July 11, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square, where stilt walkers, dancers, musicians and calypso singers will get everyone into the Carnival spirit.
“The economic trends in Canada – our low dollar and our high standard of living – will bring in an influx of American, Caribbean and South American visitors to Toronto who have shared history of and appreciation for the Carnival. We look forward to sharing our expanded and enhanced celebration with the world,” said Denise Herrera-Jackson, CEO, Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival. “We are expecting large crowds at our King and Queen contest, Pan Alive, Calypso evening, the new Toronto island fete, the 50th
anniversary Gala and, of course, the Grand Parade.”
The Ontario Science Centre is once again sponsoring the Innovation in Mas’ award which recognizes innovation in Mas’ costume engineering and design and showcases the intersection of art and science.
“Science is everywhere. The innovation and engineering that goes into the Caribbean Carnival costumes is astounding. It is a true intersection of art and science,” said Dr. Maurice Bitran, CEO and Chief Science Officer of the Ontario Science Centre. “The Ontario Science Centre is thrilled to participate in the fiftieth anniversary of Caribbean Carnival by hosting today’s media launch and sponsoring the Innovation in Mas’ Award.”
Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival will run from July 7 to August 7, 2017. This year’s Carnival will feature more floats, music, celebrities and fun than ever before. The theme “Celebrating Our Heritage: From Then to Now” will infuse every aspect of the festival, from the parade route to the shows and all performers including singers, pannists and calypsonians. Carnival events will showcase originality, culture, and history to millions of spectators attending in downtown Toronto or watching
